We are proud to receive more than 1,100 entries each year from across Western Pennsylvania, as well as parts of Ohio and West Virginia.
Each year, the Golden Quills contest honors dozens of journalists and news outlets in our region for their expert storytelling and accountability work.
Maggie Jones Patterson, a journalism professor at Duquesne University, was honored with the Service to Journalism Award at the 2025 Golden Quill Awards.

2025 Golden Quill Awards
PITTSBURGH, May 28, 2025 – The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania announced the winners of the 61st Golden Quill Awards tonight at Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh. The Golden Quills competition honors professional and student excellence in print, broadcast, photography, videography and digital journalism in Western Pennsylvania and nearby counties in Ohio and West Virginia.

Also during the awards ceremony, the Press Club honored David Newell, aka Mr. “Speedy Delivery” McFeely on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” with its President’s Award, and Duquesne University journalism professor Maggie Jones Patterson with its Service to Journalism Award.
During the dinner, The Press Club presented Point Park University rising junior Gavin Petrone of New Castle with the 2025 Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship, and Duquesne University rising junior Naomi Girson of Oakmont with the 2025 Press Club of Western Pennsylvania Scholarship.
Golden Quill Legacy sponsors are Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield & Allegheny Health Network, and UPMC.
